HEREDITARY BACKGROUND OF PVA
PVA Ayurvedic Multi-Speciality Nursing Home has a rich traditional background of over 130 years. Its known history dates back to Mummy Vaidhyar, a renowned healer who practiced his craft even before Indian independence. He was known for treating venom with herbs and mantra tantras, and had clinics in various locations including Aralam, Sreekandapuram, Muzhakunn, and Iritty.
The Iritty clinic was later passed down to Mummy Vaidhyar's son-in-law, KC Muhammed Musliar, who had trained under him. KC Muhammed Musliar continued the practice of medicine taught by Mummy Vaidhyar and took over the Iritty and Sreekandapuram clinics, establishing the KCM Oushadhashala.
Abdulhameed Haji, who had trained under KC Muhammed Musliar and BCM, the son-in-law of KC Muhammed Musliar, took charge of the Iritty clinic of PVA Oushadhashala. Today, this family has many traditional Vaidhyas and professionals, including allopathic, homeopathic, dental, and Ayurvedic doctors who practice in various clinics and also work as government doctors or for social welfare organizations.
PVA still maintains its PVA Oushadhashala and traditional pharmacy in their hometown. Dr. Abdurahaman Poilan and his son Dr. Irfan Poilan visit the hometown clinic weekly to continue the traditional practices.
DR ABDURAHMAN POILAN BSC BAMS MD PGDG&C
In his formative years, he spent time with his father Hameed Haji and grandfather Muhammed Musliar in their pharmacy and clinic. They imparted the knowledge and blessings of traditional vaidhya upon him, which eventually led him to pursue a career in zoology, specializing in nature and ecosystem homeostasis. This path allowed him to understand the essence of his family's traditional medicine and its approach to health. He then decided to focus his professional journey on Ayurveda and obtained a Bachelor's degree from Kottakal Ayurveda Medical College in 1985.
After obtaining his degree, he began practicing at his family's renowned Ayurvedic clinic and pharmacy, PVA Oushadhashala in Iritty, and further honed his skills by working at various clinics across northern Kerala. During this time, he recognized the importance of the mind-body relationship in Ayurveda and pursued additional training in psychology, hypnotism, and counseling. He also worked as a quality control officer and director in a pharmacy to gain knowledge of advanced technologies in the field.
In 1993, he established PVA Ayurvedic Multi-Speciality Nursing Home to provide inpatient care. Additionally, he pursued a Master's degree in pharmacognosy during his journey. His dedication to Ayurveda led him to travel to over 30 countries across the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Africa to conduct seminars and workshops, earning him a reputation as an outstanding physician and teacher in the field of Ayurveda. He has been featured in various magazines, including Brazilian and Japanese publications.
Throughout his academic career, he served on various committees and associations as a human rights defender and social worker.
