About Us
Dr. R.S. Roy, the chief physician and M.D. of Amrita Ayurveda Medical Centre, Tripunithura belongs to a family having rich heritage of Ayurveda. Dr. R.S. Roy’s Amrita Ayurveda Medical Centre was started as Amrita Pharmacy at Kundara, Kollam in 1990. Following this in 1996 his next venture began near Kinar junction, Tripunithura, where he concentrated on the treatment of skin and allergic diseases. In 2002, Amrita Ayurveda Medical Centre was established at Tripunithura with a full set up of in-patient treatment facilities.

After acquiring BAMS degree from the renowned Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College Ollur, Dr. R.S. Roy underwent training and practice under Ayurveda Acharya, late Sri. K. Kunjuraman Vaidyar, Pourasthya Pharmacy, Anchalummoodu, Kollam, which paved the way for success in his career. Dr. Roy dedicated his effort as a doctor in the field of Dermatology as he could acquire knowledge about Ayurveda from his very boyhood from his grandmother, who was a practitioner of ‘Visha Chikitsa’.

Besides the general ayurvedic practice Dr. Roy focused on the Ayurveda treatment of vitiligo, psoriasis and other chronic skin/allergic diseases and has been bestowed with many awards for his excellence in Ayurvedic dermatology.

Vitiligo or Leukoderma as it is often known is characterized by white patches all over the body and scalp. It is caused by loss of melanin pigments (melanocytes) that is responsible for the skin colour. It usually begins in the form of a small white patch but over a period of time may spread to the entire body. Though it is a non-infectious disease it is associated with lot of social stigma and may have a psychological impact.
Psoriasis
It is a chronic skin disease that is characterized by dry skin, red and scaly patches. It is considered to be an autoimmune disease meaning that the immune system of the body works against its own body tissues. It is a non infectious disease but may have a negative impact on certain organs in the body.

Causes
It is commonly considered as an autoimmune disease. Factors including heredity, lifestyle changes, environmental factors, exposure to certain medications, stress or a combination of these may cause psoriasis.
Different types of psoriasis can be correlated to certain types of kushta mentioned in AYURVEDIC classics.As these conditions vary in their dosha involvement,treatment also varies accordingly.Hence the treatment protocol differs from patient to patient.Sidhma,dadru,ekakushta,kitibham,charmadala,vipadika etc are certain skin diseases mentioned in ayurveda showing the features of different stages/ types of psoriasis.
Urticaria
Urticaria or Hives is a skin disorder that is characterized by rashes on the skin accompanied by severe itching. In today’s world we are all very conscious of the way we look, especially our skin. As such appearance of these hives affects us not just physically but also mentally.
In Ayurveda, Urticaria is known as Sheeta Pitta. The two dosha’s ‘Vatta’ and ‘Kapha’ are disturbed. In combination with ‘Pitta’ it causes redness, swelling and itching of the skin. It is classified as

Acute Urticaria- in this case the symptoms develop suddenly and last for a short time usually less than six weeks. It is caused by insect bites, certain food products, medications or infections. They respond well to antihistamines.

Chronic Urticaria- in this case the symptoms last for a longer duration. It is usually triggered by allergy or factors such as taking a cold bath immediately after exercise, exposure to cold wind etc
