A man is but a product of his thoughts, what he thinks he becomes” Mahatma Gandhi. Yes, you are your mind. Thoughts of your mind makes you. Your mind is the most important reason for your happiness and sorrows, your prosperity and your poverty, your well-being and your miseries. Everything that comes into being, good or bad starts with your thoughts. Everything that gets destroyed also starts with your thoughts. Just thinking about an embarrassing moment makes your cheeks turn red and thinking about something frightening makes your heart race. The way you think about your lives causes visible and tangible effects on your life.
A man’s way of doing things is the direct result of the way he thinks about those things. Positive thoughts result in positive action useful for self and others. Negative thoughts result in negative actions and negative results. A man living the ‘life of his dreams’ depends on his ability to control/channel his thoughts to the life he wants to live. Staying in control over his thoughts require him to continue holding on to his vision on ‘life of his dreams’. Yet the irony is that nobody teaches him how to take control of his mind to produce positive, helpful, progressive thoughts.
COVID’19 has divided the human history into two, before COVID’19 and after COVID’19. We who are witnessing the revolutionary changes and the paradigm shifts happening in our lives after this mysterious pandemic erupted, are the victims as well as heroes. Victims, since many of us are facing innumerable challenges; children without schools and holidays, young without colleges and universities, adults without the normal work, travel, holidays and socialising, all confined to the four wall their homes. We are also the heroes, when millions have perished around us we have survived and many of us found new ways of working and earning, socializing and entertaining and adapted to new ways for prospering. Viktor E Frankl was right, “When we are no longer able to change a situation-we are challenged to change ourselves”.
Revolutionary changes in our daily lives forced by the pandemic resulted in an increased level of anger, anxiety, worries and stress leading to unresolved mental health problems. Reduced level of social interactions limited our means to share our problems with well-wishers and friends. Visible changes in the behaviour of children and young are a concern for all. Children blame their parents, parents blame the teachers, and teachers blame the family culture for the unruly and unhealthy behaviour of children. Husband blames wife, wife blames husband, young blames the old and old blames the administrators, and the blame game goes on. Need of the hour is experts help. And in general we Indians are shy on seeking help from experts.
