Cataract

1991 :The Pioneers in Phaco-emulsification cataract surgery in Kerala if not in south India, KPMEH revolutionized cataract surgery way back in 1991.Till date that is the latest technique in cataract surgery.Since then we have been upgrading the machines every three years.
2004: We introduced the cold Pacoemulsification system.The sovereign white star cold Phacoemulsification system was installed here for the first time in Kerala.
2005: KPMEH is one of the few hospitals in Kerala where the cataract surgery is done without injections for aneasthesia.

This procedure is called
"TEMPORAL CLEAR CORNEAL COLD PHACO-EMULSIFICATION CATARACT SURGERY WITH FOLDABLE OR ROLLABLE INTRA-OCULAR LENS IMPLANTATION UNDER TOPICAL ANAESTHESIA.."

This technique is considered the latest and the best world over.

Lasik For treatment of Shortsight and Astigmatism
1997:Introduced for the first time in Kerala in association with MEDEA LASIK at Angamaly.
2004:A second unit was installed at cochin The department has one of the senior most surgeon in this field in kerala.
The equipment used here is called Allegretto Wavelight, rated as one of the best in the world and is US,FDA approved for the treatment of high degrees of short sight.

Contact lens
The contact lens clinic at KPMEH is considered as one of the largest in the state as vouched by the leading brands dealing in contact lenses. We have the widest collection of regular wear and cosmetic lenses in stock.

Paediatric Ophthalmology
Another best in the state, manned by one of the most experienced specialist in the field who has almost Ten years of experience at Aravind Eye Hospital, coimbatore. Dr.Thomas Mathew is also considered as one of the experts in squint surgery.

Retina
The department of Retina was started in 1996 in this Hospital by Dr.K E Eapen,who was the seniormost consultant in Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly .Now it has grown to be one of the referral centres in the state.

Glaucoma
Dr.Paul Mathew heads this department. Again the department is well equipped for the management of all types of Glaucoma.
