* IELTS:

IELTS is a test of English language that is a prerequisite for study, migration or work in a number of countries that remain big draws for aspiring students and professionals the world over. Millions of people take this test each year and it is endorsed by thousands of employers, universities, schools and immigration bodies around the world.

Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, among others, rely on IELTS to process immigration applications. IELTS has gained the acceptance of over 10,000 organisations in more than 140 countries. IELTS remains a key qualifying parameter for candidates gunning for scant opportunities at top-rated universities and educational institutions, multinational companies and employers, government departments and immigration authorities besides professional and industry bodies.

IELTS rates an individual’s English language proficiency by assessing his or her listening, reading, writing and speaking abilities separately.IELTS tests fall under two brackets, namely IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. The test you choose should be based on your ultimate objective for doing so.IELTS Academic measures whether your level of English language proficiency is suitable for an academic environment.IELTS General Training measures English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context, be it a workplace or social situations.

*OET :

Occupational English Test, or OET, is an internationally accepted English language test for the healthcare sector.

OET is designed to gauge the language communication skills of healthcare professionals seeking to register and continue their professional practice in an English-speaking environment.

OET covers the four language skills (writing, reading, listening, speaking) with the accent being on communication in a healthcare environment. The tests conducted reflect real workplace tasks and relevant language skills, and have been developed specifically for up to 12 different healthcare professions: Dentistry, Dietetics, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography, Speech Pathology and Veterinary Science.

*Prometric

The Prometric examination commonly refers to the qualifying assessment conducted on behalf of the Saudi Council for Health Services. The test is so called since it is conducted by Prometric, an American firm which provides comprehensive assessment services for its Saudi client.

Prometric itself is a fully owned subsidiary of Educational Testing Service and provides technology-enabled assessment options through its test centres spread across more than 160 countries.

The Prometric exam is mandatory for nurses and indeed all medical and allied health professionals to obtain their certificate before they can apply for a licence or work visa. The test for nurses assesses them under two broad categories: Nurse Specialist and Nurse Technician. BSc nurses with three years of experience are eligible to appear for the Nurse Specialist exam, while GNM and BSc nurses with experience of two years may take the Nurse Technician exam. The test results are valid for three years.

*CBT

Computer-Based training, or CBT, as the name suggests, is imparted through the means of a computer system. The medium of course delivery could either be a software application or a dedicated intranet system. This web-based training format may be deployed to teach virtually any subject although communication-related studies are especially popular via CBT.

The CBT examination features objective type questions through which candidates are assessed in terms of their professional values, decision-making, communication, and leadership. The test is mainly meant for nurses seeking employment in the UK who may have undergone their training outside Europe.

Candidates unable to clear the CBT exam on the first attempt are allowed to retake the exam without having to lodge a fresh application.
